Techniques & Types of Fabric Printing and Dying

Block printing Or Stamp printing

Block printing, also known as stamp printing, is a printing technique where a carved block or stamp is used to apply ink or dye to fabric or paper. The block is typically made of wood, linoleum, or other materials, and is carved with a design or pattern. The block is then inked or dipped in dye, and pressed onto the fabric or paper to transfer the design. This process can be repeated to create a repeating pattern or design. Block printing is a popular technique in textile production and is used to create a variety of products, including clothing, home decor, and accessories.

Hand Screen Printing

Hand screen printing is a printing technique where ink is forced through a stencil or mesh screen onto fabric or paper. The screen is typically made of a fine mesh material, such as silk or polyester, which is stretched over a frame. A stencil is then applied to the screen, which blocks out areas where ink is not desired. Ink is then applied to the screen and pushed through the mesh using a squeegee, which transfers the ink onto the fabric or paper. This process can be repeated to create a repeating pattern or design. Hand screen printing is a popular technique in textile production and is used to create a variety of products, including clothing, home decor, and accessories.

 Transfer Printing

Fabric designing with transfer printing is a process in which a design is printed onto transfer paper, and then transferred onto fabric using heat and pressure. The design is created using specialized software and is printed onto transfer paper using an inkjet or laser printer. The transfer paper is then placed onto the fabric and subjected to high heat and pressure, which causes the ink to transfer onto the fabric. This process can be used to create a wide variety of designs and patterns on fabric, and is commonly used in the production of custom t-shirts, bags, and other accessories. Transfer printing is a popular technique in textile production due to its versatility and ability to produce high-quality designs with minimal setup time.

Roller printing

Roller printing is a fabric printing technique in which a design is engraved onto a metal roller, which is then used to apply the design onto fabric. The roller is engraved with the desired design, and is then inked and rolled onto the fabric under high pressure. This process can be repeated to create a repeating pattern or design. Roller printing is a popular technique in textile production due to its ability to produce high-quality designs with fine detail and precision. It is commonly used to create a variety of products, including clothing, home decor, and accessories.

Discharge Printing

Discharge printing is a fabric printing technique in which a bleaching agent is used to remove color from dyed fabric, creating a design or pattern. The fabric is first dyed with a base color, and then a discharge paste is applied to the fabric in the desired design or pattern. The discharge paste contains a bleaching agent, which removes the dye from the fabric in the areas where it is applied. The fabric is then washed to remove any remaining discharge paste and dried. This process can be used to create a wide variety of designs and patterns on fabric, and is commonly used in the production of t-shirts, bags, and other accessories. Discharge printing is a popular technique in textile production due to its ability to create unique designs with a soft hand feel.

Wax Printing

Wax printing is a technique in which wax is used to create a design on fabric. The wax is applied to the fabric in the desired design using a tool. The fabric is then dyed, and the wax acts as a resist, preventing the dye from coloring the areas where it is applied. The fabric is then boiled or steamed to remove the wax, revealing the design. This process can be repeated to create a repeating pattern or design. Wax printing is popular in West Africa and Indonesia and is used to create clothing, home decor, and accessories with intricate designs and a unique, handcrafted feel.

Inkjet Printing

Inkjet printing is a digital printing technology that uses small droplets of ink to create an image on paper or other materials. It is commonly used in home and office printers, as well as in large-scale commercial printing.

Digital Printing

Digital printing is a printing technology that uses digital files to create images on a variety of materials, including paper, fabric, and plastic. It offers high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective printing solutions for a wide range of applications.

Fabric Designing with Dye Sublimation

Dye sublimation is a printing technique that uses heat to transfer dye onto a variety of materials, including fabric, metal, and plastic. In this process, the dye is first printed onto transfer paper, which is then placed onto the material to be printed. The heat causes the dye to sublimate, or turn into a gas, which then penetrates the material and creates a permanent, high-quality image.

Reactive Printing

Reactive printing is a fabric printing technique that uses reactive dyes to create a permanent bond with the fabric. The dye reacts with the fabric fibers to create a vibrant, long-lasting color that will not fade or wash out over time.
